Okay, just kidding. But seriously, why are we so infatuated with them? Is it because they have a life far more interesting than our own? Well that might be it and I will admit that I too am guilty of gawking at their lives. I bring this up in the wake of a conversation I had with co-workers yesterday.
One of my co-workers had an interview yesterday with the PR firm that put on the after party of the Sex and The City Movie, and in response to her announcement, another co-worker of mine said, "You'll be the next Micah Jesse." For those who don't know, Micah Jesse is basically the Perez Hilton of the East, and he happens to go to my school. He's friends with a lot of celebrities and well, he's I guess "famous". He got his shot to fame by interning at a PR firm. The two girls then proceeded to talk about how awesome and cool he is and yadiya--simply for the fact that he's uh "famous". I'm sure he's a really cool and sweet dude, but honestly, who cares? And not just about him. I'm talking about celebrities in general. Why are we so infatuated with them?! I'm beginning to stop caring about them by not watching E! News as much because seriously if you were famous, wouldn't you find it creepy if Jane Doe in Minnesota knew more about your life than you did? Yea, exactly.
So I'm taking a vow. I'm taking a vow to stop caring about the personal lives of celebrities. If the headlines tomorrow reads "SJP Walks Her Dog", I'm flipping the page because who cares? I don't and you shouldn't either.

haha, that guy hangs out with kids from Pace. Never actually spoken to him or met him formally but that's not exactly an aspiration of mine.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I agree, we need to re-evaluate how much time we focus on being celeb gawkers. It's become a little overboard, the Britney fiasco being the perfect example.
haha ive never heard of micah jesse but i checked out his site. who happens to "run into" chanel iman.. pssh!
ReplyDeletep.s. i linked you on my blog for fashion bloggers w/ iternships this summer! check it!
xoxo
Thats a shame you have to stay because of the heat-I'm staying in because of the wind and drab weather reading celeb magazines-ha ha!!
ReplyDeleteGenerally I try to only read celeb blogs that highlight their style, because I really don't need to know when Mischa Barton takes a bathroom break.
ReplyDeletei really love this entry :)
ReplyDeleteyah for some reasons, we do get infatuated with stars.. while im always infatuated with hollywood and asian stars,.. cos we just ignore the celebrities we have in manila! i mean, not to be judgmental and all, but i feel our celebrities are such social climbers! ugh..
I agree, I mean, celebs can be fun, but there is a point when I am just like "ah, this is so overrated" hahaha
ReplyDeletecute blog!!!!
I like your elephant!
Ugh, I so agree! I'd never want to be "famous."
ReplyDeleteI like see celeb style (well some of them...) but a lot of the hubbub is just plain boring! It's a bit ironic though that you mentioned the blahness of famous people and then followed it by how you had been featured somewhere...should we care that your featured? Congrats though! I'm really just kidding about the featured thing--I think you are fab!
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree more, I've stopped reading celebrity blogs and buying trashy mags. *yawn* The whole celebrity thing is so boring.
