Prior to my mini hiatus, I stumbled upon Jaime Wears Black. Her love of black got me thinking about the color black.
You see, growing up I wasn't allowed to wear black. Yes, that's right. I said I wasn't allowed. I remember whenever my mom went shopping with me I would always pick black and she would always tell me, "No. I'm not paying for that. You always choose black. Choose another color." I never understood what her dislike with black was; and I still don't. Well, may be it was because of my dark skin tone and she thought I needed a lighter color. But because my mom never allowed me to wear black, I never did. Not until recently of course and man I now know what I was missing!
Black is such an elegant and sophisticated color. May be I'll buy more of it and forgo my adventure into wearing nothing but red. What do you think?

OMG, I can't believe your mother wouldn't allow you to wear black while you were growing up! Gosh, that must have been hard. I love the color black and I hope you have fun wearing it!
ReplyDeletehey, thanks for your comment! I have a friend who wasnt allowed to wear black when she was young either. her mum said she was young and should wear colours... what the?
ReplyDeleteI love black and wearing it, it is definitely my staple!

Yeah, sometimes my parents used to have an attack about me wearing black too. I used to wear ONLY black, and circle my eyes with black kohl, and that worried my parents. Then came the emo movement, and I wore everything but black because I didn't want to be an emo, and now I am at peace with black again.
ReplyDeleteIt is really a chic and versatile colour, I am curious for your adventures in black!
Wow, not allowed to wear black!?!? :/
ReplyDeletei love wearing color but I often reach for black because it's "easy",so i've been trying to steer away from it, but it's defeinitely classy and polished.
ReplyDeleteMy mommy wouldn't let me buy solid black clothing until this year.
ReplyDeleteShe said that I had my entire life to wear black.
I mainly wear black as leggings, as a coverup cardigan, and as a basic shirt under low cut dresses.
As for red- I look best in red. As Bill Blass said, "When in doubt wear red."
hahaha so agree with little bow prep and bill blass on wearing red. Hoever, black is casual, mysterious, easy to wear, hard to make dirty:), covers imperfections, what can i say, it is kinda magic!
ReplyDeletethx for the comment, paris is freeeezing and snowing but nothing's stopping me from hitting the shops and the sonia rykel exhibitioooon!
I was allowed to wear black but my mum encouraged with colour, she would say that black is elegant but more of a non colour.gosh love the idea of only wearing red!how fab x

I just can't believe that! Why black? It is my fav color to wear!
ReplyDeleteI love black, but I still have this thing about wearing all black. My go to basic is grey because it's neutral and goes with everything. It's dark enough to be wintery and can be light enough to be summery. It'1s perfect. Black is better than red so go for it!
ReplyDeletegrowing up my mom would buy us brighter colors too. although she won't forbid black.
