At work today, networking was the subject at hand. We all came to the conclusion that it's not what you know, it's who you know--how sad and true is that? Well, an elder supervisor livened up the conversation when she said, "Yea, I had to tell my children when they got older, "Remember when mommy said that if you work hard you will always come out on top? Well, mommy lied. You're screwed."..."
PAHAHAHAHAHA!
Now I don't think that if you work hard you're completely screwed, but in some industries it's network or die. Looks like I'm going to have to work on my networking skills.

As time goes on I have learned that it is indeed who you know, you need connections to get ahead.
ReplyDeleteLuckily my dad has always taught me that since I was little, but I still work hard but for a different meaning!
ReplyDeleteHaha love what your supervisor said! Sadly it's kind of true, but I'm a believer in hard work too (but just to be sure, I'll have to work on my networking skills too!)

Hi there-yes, too true!! Have a lovely weekend anyway!!
ReplyDeleteI think networking can be fantastic, but at other times it can be what keeps qualified people from getting the job.
ReplyDeletethis is so true!!
ReplyDeleteWhy settle for just one when you can combine both and get better results?
ReplyDeleteThat's been the saying for ages. Get to know the right people, and you'll go places. Fair or not!
ReplyDeleteI know it's sad but very true. Chin up I'm learning the same thing. But remember, networking is only making friends or foes. Just basically meeting new people and having them in your corner when you need them.

Networking. Ick. You network everyday, so I'm not concerned about it
ReplyDeleteI've learned that networking is key in the majority of industries. If you aren't skilled at it, your career could suffer tremendously!
