Pink Sugar; Bloom by Reese Witherspoon; Fancy by Jessica Simpson
As long as I can remember, I've been obsessed with having a signature scent. When I was in Elementary School, it was whatever Juice Bar (remember those?!) kiddie perfume that was sweet smelling at the time. In my mallrat years aka Middle School, I raided Bath & Body Works. I especially loved the Moonlight Path and Warm Vanilla Sugar fragrances. And in High School, I fell head-over-heels for Pink Sugar from Aquolina. I did test the scented waters with every one of Britney Spears' perfumes, as well as, Hilary Duff's With Love (which I still love), but remained faithful to Pink Sugar. The sugary perfume just smells so darn yummy! When I walk into a room, people know that I have arrived because that's MY smell. I love being told I smell like cotton candy. It makes me feel sweet! Nevertheless, I concurred that any sugary and vanilla-y scent smelled dandy on me.
But in recent months, my pops bought me a new perfume. And ever since that first spritz of Fancy by Jessica Simpson, I've been having a Lost Scent of Identity. I'm not a teenager anymore, so I wonder if Pink Sugar is still an appropriate scent for me? Should I spray myself with something that's more mature? Or should I hold on to my youth with a smell so vibrant and sweet-rendering like Pink Sugar? I just don't know. Throw Bloom by Reese Witherspoon into the mix (a gift a-la my internship) and now I'm really confused. Bloom smells like flowers. I'm not a big fan of flowers (I have allergies), but I'm open to new fragrances. So as I sit here staring at the three scent selections on my dresser, I can't help but wonder, does our scent define who we are?

What's your scent?
xoxo
Unless you have a bad case of b.o., than a scent shouldn't necessarily define oneself, but it's definitely a good impression to leave behind to others though!
ReplyDeleteMy scent is Yves Saint Laurent-L'homme.
Wow you work at Teen Vogue? That's so fun. I remember starting off with bath mists (Gap Dream was my fave) then moving on to Baby Phat Goddess, mostly because I thought I was a Baby Phat goddess in middle school, and now I've been wearing Juicy for a while which definitely smells amazing on me (isn't it crazy how some perfumes smell good on some and terrible on others? for example, Polo "hot" never smelled good on me so I just use it as a room spray now, lol). It doesn't really define you...it just makes you smell good, lol.
ReplyDeleteOH, but when I left for college, I sprayed some of my mom's Chanel on my sweater sleeve because it's been her perfume forever and it reminds me of her. scents definitely remind us of people.
ReplyDeleteIn high school I was obsessed with anything satsuma-scented. I totally believe that the perfume you wear says a lot about who you are, but at the same time, you shouldn't be defined by one scent. I wear a lot of coco mademoiselle but have different perfumes for the day/event or my mood.
ReplyDeletegreat post
The fragrance you wear is one of the most important thing because people always keeps your scent in mind. I'm wearing the red apple DKNY and Nina by Nina Ricci :)
ReplyDeleteI like alternating my perfumes according to season. I wear Vera Wang Princess in the fall and winter because the vanilla notes in it seem better suited to cold weather, and Chanel Chance and Vera Wang Look in spring and summer because they're so light and fresh.
ReplyDeleteI definitely have particular scents that remind me of a certain time in my life that I wore it.. LAMB by Gwen Stefani reminds me of senior year, Betsey Johnson perfume reminds me of my first year of college..
ReplyDeleteit goes both ways too. I can smell Curve cologne from a mile away and it reminds me of my exboyfriend.. ugh
Ah the scents. I badly need a new scent.
ReplyDeleteI constantly use Elizabeth Taylor's White Diamonds.
ReplyDeleteThough, I must admit, I love the scent of Warm Vanilla Sugar from Bath & Body Works. A part of me loves smelling like fresh-baked vanilla cupcakes or cake frosting. It's just so...yummy! :)
Reese Witherspoon has a perfume? I didn't know that!
ReplyDeleteDarling post!
It's definitely nice to have a signature scent !!!!
ReplyDeleteI 've been wanting one as well.. I think Pink Sugar can remain your scent if you still love it ..... but as we get older perhaps we can "try" new scents and see if they appeal to us more.
I've been playing around with Estee Lauder Pleasures, Harajuku Lovers... but I really like Marc Jacobs new Lola...
except for summer i use euphoria by calvin klein...each summer i try a new fragrance. last summer it was chance by chanel, this summer it's victoria's secret desire...it was also summer 07 fragrance so maybe i don't try a new fragrance every summer. but still. i might go for miss dior cherie before the summer ends and i delve back into euphoria, the best scent ever invented. don't steal my fragrance. please don't.
ReplyDeletefavorite scent-- ralph lauren blue, they dont make it anymore! :(
ReplyDeleteBut i really like Marc Jacobs- daisy~
