The Week Is Finally Over

I'm losing the creativity in my outfits. Also, Winter, although enjoyable--I like cold weather, disables the outfit possibilities. And like I said in my previous post, Spring, you seriously need to come. NOW!

My week was hectic. It made me grumpy and irritable. I do too much in a week and I never have time to see anybody. And when the weekend comes, all I want to do is sleep and complete my homework.

Well, things like this are keeping me sane on campus:

I found this ad while flipping through US Vogue's March issue (which happens to be their BIGGEST issue ever--seriously.). This was quite possibly the highlight of my day, and I'm sure many of you know why; I am obsessed with Elephants! Ellie--my stuffed Elephant and the face of Secretista--was excited about this ad too! This ad is for Hermès. I stumbled upon this blog today, and it has even more pictures from the ad campaign! Quite frankly I think this is the best ad spread in the whole magazine! And it's not only because it has Elephants, okay, may be it is. LOL.

Moving on, the reoccurring theme in my week is Patriotism and Individualism. The movies that I watched in my Japanese Politics and Chinese Literature class, both had to do with Patriotism and people standing up for their country! Also, on ANTM this week, we were introduced to the apartment that the models would be staying at, which had the theme of standing up for what you believe in. Well, this got me thinking: If someone likes to dress like Krusty The Clown everyday, are they wrong? Fashion is about self-expression and creativity, but it's also about looking well-put together. But, can you look well-put together and ridiculous at the same time? I don't know. Someone help me out.

  1. I know how it is sometimes to just want to sleep 'n do nothing else, my friends tend to not like that all the time though, lol. Hmm about peeps dressing how they want, sure they can. They can dress the way they feel, but they also have to be willing to accept the fact that some people won't like it and will probably express their own feelings; but hey if they can get past the judgmental looks and comments then I guess it's all up to them to wear what they like. With wanting to be accepted one also has to accept differences of opinions from others first. Anywho, those are some of my thoughts :)

i'm all about freedom of expression...esp my freedom to express how crazy someone looks.

  5. Yes indeed the week is over!

You raised a fascinating question. I agree that fashion is about self-expression. How we dress reveals something about us. But, how that revelation is received depends on the environment. For example, if this person was traveling with a circus everyday, they would not standout. If they showed up at your school, then they'd probably be seen as crazy:)

More power to Krusty if he is comfortable in the clown suit! Lol.

    Have a great weekend!

  6. I totally get the whole winter funk thing. I have so many pretty dresses lined up for spring and I want to wear them NOW...

Also, In response to fashion as expression I think that fashion, like any art, changes with time. It is influenced by the people we see and hear and what is popular at the time. Things that seem outdated and silly now (neon tights anyone?) were "fashionable" a few years back. I don't think dressing like Krusty would be "fashionable" per se, but is it wrong? No. We've admired many great artists only after they were long gone. Who's to say "Krusty Chic" won't be the next big thing...I sure hope not, though.

I guess what I'm getting at os that fashion is expression, but expression is not necessarily fashion.
