Fashion is Art -- Oui ou Non?

Flannel: Old Navy
Shirt: Old Navy
Pants: Mandee
Boots: Guess?

Today's outfit is channeling a little bit of Gwen Stefani from her Luxurious Music Video; oh how I adore The Stefani. She's one of my personal Fashion icons (some may disagree that she is a Fashion icon, but ehh you say tomayto I say tomahto--not really lol.). I think she brings Fashion to its art form, but a little bit more on the self-expression side (does that make sense?). Check it out in the video! ;]

Anyway, today I got in trouble at work for reading the latest Harper's Bazaar (it's not my fault they don't have enough work for me to do, that I'd rather read than do nothing--haha). So while I was reading it, there was a lot of mention about art on clothing and the bold colors, and whatnot, and it got me remembering what I read in Vogue's January 2008 issue.

Amy Greenspon (whom I've never head of til I read this issue), says that she tries to separate the two, but is it really possible to separate the two? I mean they both go hand-in-hand; in a way, Fashion is a form of art. I don't know if art is a form of Fashion, but Fashion is definitely a form of art. So, eat that Amy Greenspon (you're still a fab. dresser though, haha).

I'll leave you with a message from an Angry Cow (it's pretty funny). Sorry Cow, I love my leather, but I don't believe in cruelty to animals, so judge me all you want PETA.

RRR--It's Monday

No Action Shot !! ;[

Top: Old Navy
Scarf: Target
Gauchos: Macy's
Boots: Guess?

Two things...

1. A pair of Boots, pants, a t-shirt, and a scarf are my go-to outfit (when my brain is too busy rushing to get out the door to think of what to wear); going to bed at 4 in the morning is not the best idea when you have to get up at 8 in the morning for an 8 hour shift. However, I AM alive, but barely functioning. My gauchos tucked in my boots, make me look like a pirate (RRR--Mi Fashionistas, I look a little silly, but I like it, hehe).

2. In the midst of my morning rush, I was applying lotion to my body (like I do everyday--it keeps my skin silky smooth ;]), but I ran out of lotion and I remembered that I bought some more on Friday. I was so excited to have a fresh squirt of lotion! But, nevertheless, when I went to pump my lotion, it was to my horror that I by mistake bought facial cleanser (how I mixed those two up, still racks my brain)! Man, now I had to get dressed with a half moisturized body and I had to make an extra trip to the store today (after a long day at work) to exchange the cleanser for the lotion. Well, I guess it was worth it though, because I'd die without my Cetaphil Lotion, and I needed to get more batteries for my digital camera (which uses batteries like a baby uses diapers--ugh I need a new camera). Which also brings me to why I don't have an action shot; I was so excited to get my lotion that I forgot about the batteries. My camera has died and won't let me take anymore pictures. F**KER! --MAKES ANGRY FACE--

3. Okay, sorry, three things. Well, I already revealed my secret to smooth skin, but I'll reiterate. I use Cetaphil Moisturizing Lotion; it is absolutely amazing! All my friends always wonder why my skin always feels like a baby's bottom, well, Cetaphil is the reason. I've been using it for 8 years now, and my skin is so smooth I might as well just stop shaving (haha!--I'm not that crazy). But seriously, it may be $10 or more, but it's worth it. There's no scent so if you wanna still apply some fruity smelling lotion as well, it won't counter-scent (is that even a word? lol), and it doesn't have a greasy residue, so when I'm done applying it to my body, I'm not slipping as I turn the door knob. Try it, I DARE YOU! ;]

Dress Me Up With Love

Top: Bitten by SJP
Pants: Mandee
Boots: Guess?
Scarf: My Momma's<33

What up with this weather? It is beginning to be reminiscent of last year when it was strangely warm mid-Winter, and the flowers were beginning to blossom because they thought it was Spring time. Today I walked around campus without my Winter coat. Crazy bananas isn't it? Today I had lunch with my friend Joseph; he always manages to bring me back to Earth and make my day bright. He's so country and down-to-earth that I wish he wasn't engaged, haha! We've only been friends since the beginning of this semester, and even though I never mentioned my love for Fashion, he can tell I love Fashion and assumed that that was my major (even though our school doesn't offer that option? haha). Why did I mention that? Yea, I don't know. Well, no, isn't it amazing how people can see into our being without being told? I mean I almost never tell anyone that I love Fashion. I think I went through a phase (in high school) where I would tell people, but now I don't feel like I need to, because for me, Fashion is my personal love. It's like my boyfriend. It's my lover; it knows me better than anyone (besides God), and knows how to make me feel better when I am down. As weird as it sounds, a good outfit fulfills my voids. I'm not into the trends, nor do I care about what's in, but what makes me look in the mirror and feel good about myself. Fashion is truly a wonderful thing; it's the ultimate love.

Also, today I went to the mall to look for a leather coat and left with a leather coat and new heels. Seriously, why do I do this? I have one agenda when I go to the mall but leave with more than I intended! What is funny about the heels I bought is that I just read an article in Seventeen Magazine (love this magazine!) that mentioned a shoe with a thick heel and strap won't kill your feet. I think I'll test them out tomorrow at work!

BOOTiful ya?

Good Evening Future Trendsetters,

As I sit here listening to Hilary Duff's Album Dignity--which you should all go out and buy because it is absolutely amazing--I am wondering what is my purpose for this blog besides my own self-fulfillment of writing about one of my true passions. Well honestly, I want this blog to eventually have pictures of real people who are real trendsetters. I don't mind looking at celebrities for fashion insight, but I honestly think that normal people are who we should be looking at for our next fashion move. The normal people in the world are the true fashionistas! Or, secretistas as I like to call them. I'll be prowling the streets of New York next month looking for those hidden fashionistas.

Phew, now that that's out of the way. Tonight I went shopping with my dad for my Christmas present (I know once again the surprise factor is killed.). I really didn't know what I wanted for Christmas because as I get older, I find that I don't think about it. I did however think of what I need. I know I needed flat boots. Why? Well, the ones I bought last year I wore them to a pummel like I do every year with my boots. However, this time I decided to go a little more expensive and get leather ones that I know will not ruin after a year, haha. The boots are from Guess? and have gold zippers on both sides of the boot and are right-below-the-knee length; I think they are too die for. They make me happy because now I have two pairs of boots (I have a pair of wedged boots.). Wearing boots always makes me feel sexy, and I think every woman should try wearing a good pair of boots because you'll feel instantly unstoppable! I can't wait to wear them with everything, because well they virtually go with just about anything! The picture to the right shows what the boots sort of look like, plus this image that I took from Catwalk Queen shows you how they could be worn.

Well as always...

Stay Lovably Fashionable,
Secretista
