All Questions Answered

What school do you go to and what are you studying?
I'd rather not reveal where I attend school, although, older readers do know where I get my education on. I love my university with all my heart, but with recent not-so-flattering media attention we've gotten, I'm keeping my lips shut. If you couldn't guess it, I'm studying print journalism and women's studies. Power to the female!

Do you believe in soulmates?
Yes, very much so. I have my parents to blame for that. I truly believe my parents are soulmates; they met when they were 16 and have been together ever since. Growing up I never wasted time with guys, who I didn't think were my potential soulmate. Granted this left me very single for most of my life, and I'm sure some people will say that I'm crazy and that I should just date to date and test the waters, but I believe when I meet the one, I'll know.

How can people get invited to fashion related events?
The people who get invited to fashion related events usually have some influence on the industry itself. Whether you're a famous Blogger, Editor, Buyer, Designer or even a Celebrity, you may get an invite. Or, becoming some form of a Fashion Intern may help too!

Did you start doing fashion internships in high school, or did you begin in college? Is that even really possible to be an intern in high school unless you have connections?
I began interning in College. After all, I didn't really know where to start in high school. Interns are allowed to be from high school, but I'm sure those are special circumstances. Noel @ MissCouturable did it and so did Colby Jordan--Phillip Lim's super teen intern.

I'm going to be interning at Seventeen this fall. It's a different department than you interned with, but I was wondering if you had any advice?
My only advice is that you be yourself and don't be afraid to voice your opinion (in a polite and demur manner of course) and be enthusiastic 100% of the time. If they tell you to go make copies, act like you live for making copies. And if you truly love where you're interning, this shouldn't be hard!

Ask Secretisa: What's your favorite book?

Growing up I hated reading. But now, I don't mind it so much. In fact, I kind of enjoy it. Over the summer I read 4 or was it 5(?) books. I don't remember, ha! I might have also not liked reading as a kid because my dad always tried to stuff any book down my throat. I'm not rebellious by nature, but if you have your father constantly chastising you for not reading, you won't want to read. Nevertheless, one reader asks, "What's your favorite book?"

My favorite book is "The House on Mango Street" by Sandra Cisneros. I first read it my senior year of high school and have been in love with it ever since. It's a series of vignettes (small stories w/ in a novel) about a girl who moves to Mango Street with her family and tries desperately to get out, but soon wonders if she can actually escape it. It's a true darling book with deeper meanings and is an easy read. I recommend it to anyone who isn't a fan of reading. We're set to read it this semester in my Women's Studies class, and I can't wait to revisit the exciting stories Cisneros creates.

Ask Secretista: What are your wardrobe essentials?

And, I'm back.

I apologize for my blogging absence. For the past couple of weeks, my life has been nothing but Resident Assistant and back-to-school shenanigans. But I'm back and on the blogging attack. I might be speaking too soon though. New York Fashion Week starts on Thursday September 10, 2009, I return to my internship on Friday September 11, 2009, and until NYFW ends, I will be running around like a chicken with its head cutoff in platform heels.

Continuing with my question and answer series, one reader asks, "What are your wardrobe essentials?"

Everyone has a different style, so a person's style has a lot to do with what they consider their wardrobe essentials. Since I consider myself somewhat a person with a crazy/conservative sense of style, I'd say my must-haves include a high waisted skirt, flowy top, jeans and statement shoes.

High Waisted Skirt
A skirt is an easy way to go from casual to dressy. Wear a high waisted skirt and you'll pump up the edge on your girly look! Skirts are also more versatile than pants. I'm in love with these picks from College Candy.

Flowy Top
I'm all about flowy tops. My mid section is one of the areas on my body that I am extremely insecure about. To hide my imperfections, I wear a flowy top. I'm a fan of belting it because it gives me shape while hiding the extra baggage.

Jeans
Sure I've lost all hope in jeans. But when I find a good pair, I wear and tear them to death. Jeans are an essential in my wardrobe simply because the right one can be worn with anything. Enough said.

Statement Shoes
Someone once said, "You can judge a person by the shoes they wear." I happen to agree with that statement. Next time you're out and about, look at the shoes of the people walking past you. A shoe can say a lot about a person. That's why most of the shoes I own are unique and one of a kind. Also, a shoe that makes a statement can save an outfit and turn an outfit from simple to simply chic!

Ask Secretista: What is your favorite childhood memory?

As you know, I've decided to follow in the footsteps of other Bloggers and do a question and answer series.

What is your favorite childhood memory?

Hmm. My favorite childhood memory is the first day of school. I love the days leading up to it and I love going Back-to-School shopping! I pretty much remember what I wore on the first day of school for every single school year since I was 8 years old. My favorite outfit was in 3rd grade when I wore a leopard print skort, a tan T-shirt with a leopard print heart in the middle of it, and my pearly white Mary Janes. Wow. Even thinking about it now makes me want to recreate it. And with a new semester right around the corner, I can't help but think, "What will I wear on my first day of classes?"

Ask Secretista

Ask Secretista

Being that I'm heading back to campus in three days (!!!) and will be busy until school starts, I've decided to do what other Bloggers have done and have a question and answer series! As you can see in this post done by a cute new blogger, I love answering questions. And the one thing some may not know about me is that I love mentoring. Just like my hero Atoosa Rubenstein, I love helping teen girls and will probably help teen girls until eternity. I get countless e-mails from girls asking me questions about fashion, internships and other life issues and I think it's time I share my answers with everyone.

Leave your questions in the comment area (comment link by this post's title), and I'll answer as many as I can. Ask away lovelies! I can't wait to read the questions!

I'll begin answering the questions on August 24, 2009.

xoxo
