Elephants in Fashion: Jan. 2008 German Vogue

Okay, okay. I know I said I'd be back in the new year, but when I stumbled upon this photo à-la Googling something, I just had to share it with you all!

I came across this awesome blog Swing Fashionista, where I spotted a great post titled Africa Appeal: Koto Bolofo for German Vogue January 2008. In this post was a great photo of a spread with Elephants!! It also reminded me that my good friend from school is about to spend 3-4 weeks in Ghana helping Orphans. Oh, the amazing people I meet in College... He's a film a student and made an awesome film (that I was supposed to be in, but there was a scheduling conflict) for his class project. Check it out below!

I'm Back--Meow

I've been meaning to post this, but this clipping from the March issue of Vogue USA, sums up my current life & style. Woohoo for the powerful woman inside of all of us!

That being said, do you consider yourself a female in charge of your life? Do you have a Facebook? Well, then miss thang, you need to join this facebook group: Alpha Kitties :).

On another note, mid-term week was utterly and completely CRAZY! I slept an average of 2 hours a night--TWO-MOTHER-FREAKING HOURS A NIGHT! I'm surprised I didn't pass out.

It's Spring break and my week will consist of the following:

  • Working on campus and making lots of money
  • Homework and projects
  • Campus radio stuff
  • Lots of Bikram (hot) yoga
  • Catching up with my magazines
  • Improving my InDesign skills
  • Going home for about mmm 3 days & seeing my beloved Asian possy

How's life?

NY Fashion Week continues!

Today, my gay boyfriend and I went to the 50 Years of Italian Fashion exhibit at Twelve 21 on west 21st street between 5th and 6th ave; we were surprised by the next to no crowd (okay, there actually wasn't anyone in there besides us). The exhibit was nice, but short. I thought there would be more! Well, when you first walk in through the double doors, the wall to the left was decorated in Vogue covers from different eras. There was more to the exhibit, but the wall covered in Vogue magazine covers, truly caught my eye.

It makes me wonder why American Vogue doesn't have more artistic--for the lack of a better word--covers. I mean, honestly. You can't tell me that these covers don't make you wanna pick up an Italian Vogue. My favorite and most recent are these:

I don't know who these women are, but I'll assume they are models. It would be nice to see models grace the cover of American Vogue again. I've had enough with the celebrities!

Moving on: My lover and I went over to Bryant park.

The front steps are as far as we got (^^those aren't the front steps lol). However, I did receive a WWD newspaper with the entire scheduling and I wanna go back tomorrow and crash, uh I mean attend, a Fashion show. But, my devotion to the Giants, just might hold me back.

Sigh, I wish I could go back everyday of this week, but I've got quizes coming up and the Spice Girls Concert, so it looks like my Fashion Week adventures won't continue until Friday or Thursday night.

Oh, and we got a picture with Jack. Yay!

Fashion is Art -- Oui ou Non?

Flannel: Old Navy
Shirt: Old Navy
Pants: Mandee
Boots: Guess?

Today's outfit is channeling a little bit of Gwen Stefani from her Luxurious Music Video; oh how I adore The Stefani. She's one of my personal Fashion icons (some may disagree that she is a Fashion icon, but ehh you say tomayto I say tomahto--not really lol.). I think she brings Fashion to its art form, but a little bit more on the self-expression side (does that make sense?). Check it out in the video! ;]

Anyway, today I got in trouble at work for reading the latest Harper's Bazaar (it's not my fault they don't have enough work for me to do, that I'd rather read than do nothing--haha). So while I was reading it, there was a lot of mention about art on clothing and the bold colors, and whatnot, and it got me remembering what I read in Vogue's January 2008 issue.

Amy Greenspon (whom I've never head of til I read this issue), says that she tries to separate the two, but is it really possible to separate the two? I mean they both go hand-in-hand; in a way, Fashion is a form of art. I don't know if art is a form of Fashion, but Fashion is definitely a form of art. So, eat that Amy Greenspon (you're still a fab. dresser though, haha).

I'll leave you with a message from an Angry Cow (it's pretty funny). Sorry Cow, I love my leather, but I don't believe in cruelty to animals, so judge me all you want PETA.

Pierce me, please.

Hey There Trendsetters,

I spent almost the entire day at the salon! My mother and I arrived at 1:30PM and didn't return home until 8PM; the salon was packed! Our hair stylist had other clients before us and it didn't look like he was going to be finished anytime soon. It seemed like everyone was getting their hair done just in time for Christmas. Well, while I was at the salon waiting for 4 hours until it was my turn in his chair, I fed my fashion hunger with all the magazines he had in the salon; Vogue, TeenVogue, Lucky, & etc. They were all there! YUM! However, I couldn't fully enjoy it because my mom was over my shoulder giving her two cents! Love ya mom, but sometimes you need to SHH! Haha. Anyway, it seemed like all the issues were giving advice as for the proper Holiday attire. I think that is great because they really do help in picking the right outfit for the right party, but the reason I mention this is because I am making a disclaimer as to the fact that I will not be talking about any Holiday attire. If you haven't realized what to wear to that holiday party by now or you haven't gotten your fashionable gifts for that special someone by now, well you're shit out of luck! Plain & simple. =)

On another note, I have recently fell in love with the female duo group The Pierces. They are absolutely amazing! Their music is very serene and catchy; to be politically correct their type of genre is Adult Alternative. These two ladies Allison and Catherine Pierce are not only musically talented but fashion forward too! I was reading an article on them in a magazine that I can't remember the name to, but their fashion style is a mix of Bohemian and Modern. I think the fact that their parents were self-proclaimed hippies might have something to do with it, but either way they are fashionably on point! All you Gossip Girl lovers may remember their songs "Secrets" and "Three Wishes" from the December 5, 2007 episode. The Pierces have been around since 2000 and I am wondering why this year is the first time I am hearing of them?! I am currently listening to their recent album which you should all go out and buy because buying CDs is the right thing to do! Well, that is all pour moi.
