Elephants in Fashion: Harper's Bazaar September 2009

I can't believe I missed this! Harper's Bazaar is my ultimate favorite fashion magazine. However, I will admit that during the school year I take a break from magazines and just let them pile up so that when the semester ends, I have me time with my magazines.

Take a look at the rest of the spread. "Naomi Campbell journeys to Africa in safari-inspired stunners."

Harper's Bazaar Talks Fashion (1971)

I've been feeling nostalgic lately. It might really just be because I'm about to hit one of the many milestones in my life--16 days until I'm 21!!

I stumbled upon this intriguing video that makes me yearn for old fashion times, when the true aesthetic of clothes making was really appreciated and it wasn't just about the overall look. There are some great coats showcased and I am in need of a new wool coat. Preferably Red. Any suggestions? One thing that also stuck out to me in the video is that the blazer will clearly never go out of style! The lovely lady interviewing the high-ed American designers is China Michado,  former Harper’s Creative Director. She visits Betsey Johnson, Bill Blass, Geoffrey Beene, Halston, Anne Klein and others. It's a MUST watch!

Elephants in Fashion: Jan. 2008 German Vogue

Okay, okay. I know I said I'd be back in the new year, but when I stumbled upon this photo à-la Googling something, I just had to share it with you all!

I came across this awesome blog Swing Fashionista, where I spotted a great post titled Africa Appeal: Koto Bolofo for German Vogue January 2008. In this post was a great photo of a spread with Elephants!! It also reminded me that my good friend from school is about to spend 3-4 weeks in Ghana helping Orphans. Oh, the amazing people I meet in College... He's a film a student and made an awesome film (that I was supposed to be in, but there was a scheduling conflict) for his class project. Check it out below!

A Magazine For and About Fashion Bloggers

Check me out! I'm a firm believer in that there's no harm in shameless self-promotion. Uh-huh. That's right. I said it! And when the editor at Style Sample Magazine (a new webzine) contacted me, I was more than pleased to add my two cents to their third issue. I'm featured in the "Blogs To Watch" section. I think the concept of this magazine is absolutely great! With Fashion Bloggers taking the fashion industry by storm, a certain amount of attention is well-deserved. And a magazine specifically devoted to us doesn't hurt. I remember when there were just a handful of fashion blogs. I've watched fashion blogging blow-up into this new fad. It makes me so happy! =]

One of the questions they asked me: "Who do you hope to reach?"
My answer: "When I write, I write for the person who needs inspiration. A good portion of my blog has me including my readers on my journey into the magazine industry, adulthood and college. And being that I'm a firm believer in hard work, dedication and positivity, a lot of my posts portray just that. My life journies are always done with a smile."

Spring Break The T Magazine Way

'Tis the month for Spring Break at most schools; except mine.

My Spring Break isn't until April 6, 2009 and at this point I wonder, "Why even have a Spring Break?" By the time I come back from Spring Break, school is practically over. Hmm. Well. I guess April is in the season of Spring and to go without a break until May would drive some students crazy (me included).

T Magazine recently released their Spring 2009 travel issue and it makes me wish April 6, 2009 would come... NOW! The issue provides pictures and stories on I-never-thought-about-traveling-there destinations and rockin' fashion picks. Chicago graces the background of the cover and now I'm seriously considering taking a trip to Chicago to go see a former fellow fashion intern. However, I'm the Resident Assistant on duty for most of Spring Break and a trip is not possible. Oh well, there's next year!

Teen Vogue: March 2009

The March 2009 issue of Teen Vogue features a spread about feminizing Men's Wear. Anyone who knows me knows that I LOVE Men's Wear. It is one of the many reasons I love fashion.

I've probably told this story a thousand times, but growing up my mom never let me pick my own clothes and would always buy me a limited supply. And being the clothes horse I am, I decided to ransack my older brother's closet and mix his button downs with my acid-washed overalls (cool, I know--hah) or whatever. It became a normal morning routine of mine. I would get dressed then sneak into his room and look at his closet to see if there were any pieces I could add to my outfit. Whenever I would come home from school, my brother would say (with a puzzled look), "Is... that... mine?" My mom hated the idea of me mixing Men's and Women's Wear but I did and do love it.

Women's HERstory Month

Ha-ha. Get it? History--HERstory. I think it's clever; my school is calling March Women's HERstory Month and hosting events on campus in which there are different stories told about different influential women. And as a women's studies minor, my inner "feminist" is itching to come out. Okay, I lied. I'm not really a "feminist," but I love the idea of women being empowered. So when I saw that Glamour magazine was giving a tribute to "female risk takers, rule breakers and style makers" by having young starlets pose as them, I couldn't help but hold up my peace sign and say, "Girl power!"
