It's All Over

Photobucket

My roommate has left; the room feels empty without her. And except for the clutter of rubbish piled-up by the garbage bins, the hallways of my residential building are deserted. So as I pack my things for the storage place tomorrow, I can't help but go through all my things that I haven't looked at since the beginning of the Semester!

The first items I decided to store were my magazines; and I have come to the conclusion that I have a serious magazine-hoarding problem. While carrying them, I almost pulled a back muscle! However, I did notice a couple of my magazines were missing. I wonder if my lovely roommate got sticky fingers and took some with her?!--Haha, I doubt it. But seriously, where'd they go?! Either way I know I have to give some of the issues away, but it's so hard (to say gooodbyee to whattt weee hadddddddddddddd!)!--Sorry, I sometimes randomly start singing.

Well, I still can't believe my first year of College is over. I wonder what this Summer will bring? Oh wait, I know. Lots, and lots of work. But, it'll be nice to get back into a normal sleeping and eating habit. I'm sick of eating horrible meals and sleeping an average of 3 hours a night. Hopefully I'll be spending a good amount of time with my friends from back home and PRC! :)

Yikes, I better get packing!

Still On Hiatus

Today marked the official end of my Freshman year. Well, for classes at least. I've still got about 5 papers--5 to 7 pages each--to write. Most of them due the day of the final, but I am determined to bang them all out this weekend! Ha.

I still can't believe the end is here; my Big Brothers/Big Sisters program as well ended today and my 'little' isn't coming back next year because he will be playing drums in the band (so proud of him), so therefore, it was an emotional day.

I will like to enlighten you all on a wonderful online magazine: Kiwibox.com

This online magazine is geared towards the teen demographic. It's got everything a teen--tween(?) wants. From Fashion to simple advice, this online magazine has it going on. What I love is that their Fashion section actually gives teens insight on Fashion Week. I actually don't know many or any teen magazines that supply some tidbits from the abroad Fashion Week shows. Plus, they also have an online community within their site! I guess you could say Kiwibox.com is kind of like Facebook meets Seventeen.

Campus Relations: Get Involved

Like Miss Couturable, I should be on break--studying and what not--but honestly, blogging is essential to my sanity; I need it to relieve my Journalistic tendencies.

As the year winds down (I only have a week of classes left), I scramble to finish my final papers, projects, and homework assignments. I can't believe my first year of College is almost over. I feel like it was just yesterday that I met my roommate for the first time. I still remember how awkward we felt with each other because we didn't know each other's quirks and dislikes. Things have changed since then, and I'm sure we'll be friends for the next 3 years--may be even best friends.

I'd have to say my first year wasn't too bad. In fact, it might have been darn near perfect. I had a really good transition; I became really involved and met a lot of different people! I never truly realized that I was involved in so many organizations on campus until yesterday. I had an interview yesterday for a position on campus in the Undergratuate Admissions office, and one of the lovely ladies, who I absolutely adore, asked me, "So tell us what you are involved in on campus."

I sighed because I'm passionate about all my clubs and I could talk for days! Nevertheless my response was as follows, "Well, I'm a part of the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program, InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, Hofstra Chronicle, Makin' Treble: Hofstra's 1st all-women's a Capella group, I tour guide with you guys, I'm on the E-board of my residential building hall council, I also take pictures/write for the yearbook, and I plan on starting a Fashion magazine next Fall (Yes, I let the cat out of the bag. This is secret PRC and I have been withholding, but now you all know.)."

"Whoa! And you're a Freshman?"
"Yeaa, and I plan on getting involved in more things!" :)

Next Fall, I've got to get re-involved in the belly dancing club and possibly add Women of Action to my agenda. Not to mention (many of you already know) I'll be a RA, an on-air radio personality for WRHU, and the Assistant Editor of the Editorial/OP-ED section of Hofstra's Chronicle. Oh, and I'll be working as Deputy Features Editor of up and coming JAYE Magazine! Hopefully with a Fall internship, my days will be even MORE exciting! I don't know how I manage a decent GPA that lands me on the Dean's List, but I'm just glad that I do all these things that help me make connections and hopefully life long friends. Oh, not to mention I make my parents' really proud, and that always makes me happy :).

So why am I bringing this all up?
Well, next week I'll be representing one of my many clubs at a wonderful award ceremony the school will be hosting.

One of the girls (who's graduating) that was nominated for Woman of The Year, is also a fellow volunteer for Big Brothers/Big Sister, and today we had a conversation that went something like this,

"Oh, Veronica you're graduating in like 2 weeks. Excited?!" :)
"Yes and no."
"Why? You'll now be in the real world!"
"Yea, but I'll miss my friends."
"Aww... well, I can't believe my first year is almost over." :(
"Oh yea that's right, you're a Freshman, and you're really involved in a lot of stuff on campus right?"
"Yea, why?"
"Well, just make sure it stays that way. I always tell incoming Freshman, you need to get involved. What good are you if all you do is wake up and go to class?"

And quite frankly, she's right.

I can't wait for the award ceremony because I want to see all the lovely faces of students that are passionate about student activities as much as I am. So what am I trying to say here (if you haven't realized it by now)? All of those who are in school or going away to school: you need to get involved. It's essential to your education. You build great ties and bonds with people, and you never know how that can help you in the future. And as I say to most of the Prospective students and parents on my tours, "Let's face it, you are here in College to have fun, make friends, get an education, and most importantly, market yourself."

But don't get me wrong, I know a ton of great people that aren't really involved in anything; I guess it's just a personal preference of mine.

P.S
.
I wore a maxi dress today! Well, I had a shirt and jacket over it, but my Big Brothers/Big Sisters program was with the male soccer team today. Haha, so you know I had to look cute and feminine. :)

Jackie O, We Loved Her So...

Lately, I feel like I've been channeling Jackie O. Of course, with my own modern twist. Jackie's style was one of crisp, elegance, and charm. She knew how to look tastefully chic, yet comfortable, and well, girly. I don't have many personal style icons, but I think her style is something I adore and if I could emulate anyone--besides Gwen Stefani--it would be her. Oh how cliché of me... everyone adores Jackie's style.

It's Wednesday, and I usually talk about 'Campus Relations', but this week I didn't attend any on-campus activities. However, last night, I met the rest of the RAs for my Residential building next year! And, they're awesome! I hope they weren't freaked out by me, because I'm usually shy when I first meet people. Sometimes people take that as me being mean (my roommate did), but I'm actually really nice (sometimes too nice) and well, I'm just a naturally quiet person who thinks a lot, so if I'm not talking it's because I'm thinking!

Campus Relations

Apparently, the seminar on Web 2.0 I went to tonight was fully intended for P.R Majors. But you know me, Miss Do-everything--I just had to go! Filled to the max, Hofstra's News Hub was 80% P.R Majors, 10% Journalism Majors, and 10% etceteras. Steve Rubel, a Hofstra Graduate & P.R extraordinaire, was the speaker and boy did he have A LOT to say; it was all very informative! He touched upon the Internet and how we should and do use it to collaborate and connect. However, I often ponder if this fast-paced and easy connection could back fire? May be. He also talked about, us, bloggers--we are taking over the world my friends! It also made me realize that I am here in College to market myself--yes, I said market myself. Oh, and I guess get an education. Did you know most companies Google their potential employees?! Google yourself and see what you find; I Googled myself and what I found is very interesting! But anyway, from what I observed tonight, the P.R kiddies got it right, their self-promotion state of mind just might help them in the future. Once Steve Rubel was done talking, the clearly P.R Majors asked very insightful questions; I was impressed. Public Relations seems like such an interesting Major, but I love journalism and will stick with it til the day I die, but who truly knows what the future entails?!

The supposed BIGGEST Spring job fair EVER was today; that was bust. Seriously, there was one publication there. The New York Times DIDN'T SHOW UP! I met a lovely new publication though, Neighbor Newspaper; it's like a compilation of all the local newspapers in the area, so it's pretty new and innovative. And I love new and innovative things! Oh well, I'm looking to get into the glossies anyway.
