MUST WATCH: Mahogany Starring Diana Ross

Over the weekend, I was aimlessly flipping the TV channels when I stumbled upon a familiar face wearing a chic camel trench coat paired with a burgundy scarf and sweater. That familiar face was none other than Diana Ross. I could instantly tell what I feasted my eyes on was a movie that was set in the 1970s. My channel changing spastic finger stopped. Mahogany was the name of the film. Secretly for the past month, I've been on a Diana Ross kick. I don't know why (Seriously). Her and BoA are my go-to stations on Pandora. But yes, I've been on a DR diva kick, so I was super excited to sit and watch the entire film.

For those who don't know, Mahogany is about Tracy (Diana Ross) who is an aspiring fashion designer. Her dreams take her to Rome where she is then pushed into a whirlwind known as the fashion industry, leaving her humble abode in Chicago. "Success is nothing without someone you love to share it with" was the underlined meaning of the entire movie. All in all, it's a must watch. If not for the actual storyline, then for the decadent fashion that Diana Ross dons.

Begin watching it below. My orders.

RIP Alexander McQueen

Today I woke up to a text from my buddy Chelsea of PinkRockCandy saying, "Alexander McQueen may have committed suicide! ;(" I shot out of my bed and went to Twitter, where I found sources that confirmed her statement. This is so sad. Why do the talented die so young? My condolences go out to his family. I know how hard it is to deal with the death of a loved one.

RIP

Artist Appreciation: Elise Fargnoli

Meet Elise Fargnoli. She's a textiles and design student at Rhode Island School of Design. She creates mostly floral paintings and hopes to one day take her creations from canvas to fabric. She claims Tory Burch, Lilly Pulitzer, DVF and Betsy Johnson as some of her art-spiration, which is clearly visible. Elise will soon be represented by Agora Gallery in Chelsea, New York City and will  have her first painting ever in London on January 20th for an exhibit with Showcase London. You go girl!

I have a true appreciation for art, as most fashion feens do. My favorite paintings are below. What do you think of her work?

Checkout her giveaway with my girl Xtina. You could win a pair of Havaianas flippy floppies!

An Outfit Post: What's The Point?

I haven't done an outfit post in a while. I started this blog posting my outfits because I was searching for my style, my fashion voice. Over the past year, I grew-up. I became "one" with the person I am. As corny as that may sound, what I mean is that I'm past the stage in my life (at least I hope so) where I am uncomfortable with myself. I am confident in the person I have become, and I am confident in the fashion choices I make. So long are the days where I let my insecurities get the best of me. Well, who am I kidding? Our insecurities will always come up and bite us every now and then; but for now, mine are to the minimum. My point is, I just never see the point in posting my outfits anymore. I'm not sure if they serve as inspiration or as an example of me being narcissistic because I enjoy taking pictures of myself--haha! Whatever the purpose my outfit posts serve as, I may never know. But for now, I'm just sharing my current style.

Mom's chiffon button-down blouse.
Old Navy tunic dress. H&M belt. H&M legging pants.
ALDO over-the-knee boots. Michelle Roy necklace. Dooney & Bourke watch.

I owe this outfit to my current internship. Working in a place where majority of the people look like they stepped out of the pages from the very same magazine they work for is pretty sweet and inspiring.

My Vintage Vogue

My Vintage Vogue
Photo: Myvintagevogue
My new favorite Web site, ever.

By nature (and because of my upbringing), I am a gal who loves anything tradition and vintage related. I enjoy going to church every Sunday, having a man hold the door open for me and of course wearing skirts and dresses whenever I can. My personal style also reflects this: modernly conservative with an edge. I think the fact that I like conservative outfits is the main reason I love vintage things and vintage times. My favorite fashion era is the 1960's; it had a touch of elegance and a certain je ne sais quoi.

I recently stumbled upon a great Web site entitled, Myvintagevogue. The Web site is "devoted to vintage fashion" and "to the designers, models & photographers which inspire us." I am absolutely IN LOVE with this site. I should be doing my journalism homework but instead I am fervently clicking through all of the images from every era listed, as well as, the extra categories such as "Umbrella Girls." I knew there is a reason I am obsessed with umbrellas.

What do you think of the site?

Inspire Me!

The one thing that Diane Keaton, Sarah Jessica Parker, Audrey Hepburn and Gwen Stefani have in common, besides being celebrities, is that they are a couple of my fashion icons. All four of these ladies influence my style in more ways than I can count. I think fashion icons emerge not for us to emulate but for us to admire and channel--through our style. And this my friends, is why I'm obsessed with fashion icons. I just love being inspired (*cough*look at my profile*cough*).

The reason I love all four of these ladies is because each one of them stick/stuck by their personal style. My love for their personal style might also have to do with the fact that one day I want to leave my mark on this world as a woman who stood on her own. Each one of them are different and independent women whose style cannot be replaced.

Who are your fashion icons?

I Feel Like Dancin'

Some of the roots of my craziness and Fashion taste is with House/Dance/Euro Pop/Euro Dance etc. music. The first CD I ever owned was by Aqua (The creators of the song Barbie Girl). I think my inner inhibitions to be a dancer made me love this type of music, but ever since the age of 8 I have been HOOKED. And if you've been a frequent reader of my blog, you'll notice it in the music I play. So the other day when I heard September's Cry For You on Z100 I was ecstatic. The radio stations never play my kind of music, except for the occasional Bob Sinclar and currently David Guetta song.

What I love about this type of music is that the videos are artfully done and Fashion forward. It makes me crave a day of what I call "shopping therapy"--haha. I've compiled a list of music videos that will give you the Fashion inspiration you've been wanting. Or at least I hope it gives you some Fashion inspiration, and if not, then some quality entertainment!

1. September; Cry For you
2. September; Satellites
3. Kylie Minogue; In My Arms
4. Kylie Minogue; Wow
5. Aqua; Lollipop
6. 2 Unlimited; No Limit
7. Yelle; A Cause des Garcons

What's your favorite type of music?

Okay, so may be some of it is a little cheesy and weird, but I love it! Woo--I feel like dancin'!
