New York Fashion Week has begun and tonight, September 10, 2009 is Fashion's Night Out! I won't be attending because I stayed up until 1:30 in the morning editing the school's newspaper, and then an extra four hours writing a 1,000 word essay. I've also been up since 8:30 a.m having classes back-to-back until well, now. Needless to say, I will be there in spirit. I need my rest if I want to be fierce and focused for my return to the teeny Holy fashion Grail. We'll be covering NYFW, so check out TeenVogue.com for all the scoops on the Spring 2010 collections.
I'm fleeing for the next week. Hopefully by then, my schedule will be back to normal and I can start blogging daily once again. Holla!
Ugh. Never have I had to do an edit on a post before (see my previous post), but I guess it's my fault for forgetting that people other than fashion lovers read my blog. In my previous post, the Marc Jacobs invite is from the Fall 2008 season. Find out the story behind the invite here.
Moving on, I can't get enough of The Cut's coverage of the Fall 2009 shows. I'm slightly addicted to The Cut; I've been a fan ever since the blog started last February. And since I won't be trekking into New York City in hopes of weeding my way into a show, The Cut's postings will just have to do.
Yesterday was the day. Yesterday was the start of a great opportunity. From 10 in the morning 'til 6 at night, it was non-stop unpacking, organizing and labeling of dresses. Mmm, and I loved every moment of it! Us interns were like a well-oiled machine. We worked very well together; it's as if we had one giant fashion brain. Well, I don't have much to say because I'm really tired. Or, I might actually be really antsy because of the fact that I get to go to a fashion show on Sunday!! The editor had extra Fashion Week show invites and divvied them out to the interns. Of course it came down to an all out blood bath (not really) for the William Rast show, but I'm happy to say I won! I might also be going to Alexandr Terekhov's show, but I don't know if I'm down for spending 12-plus hours in the city. OH yeah. Did I mention that there's an after party for the William Rast show?! I'm just happy that this time I won't have to sneak into the shows. I can actually attend as a LEGITIMATE guest (yay!).
I just watched the semi-finale of Project Runway, and anyone else confused?
The morning of February 8, 2008, all 5 finalists showed at the tents in Bryant Park. In tonight's episode, Sweet Pea was eliminated, and Chris and Rami have to showcase their three best designs in order to show at the tents. But, how could that be? Since, all 5 of them showed during NY Fashion Week. My fellow -Istas, I am confused. Here in my dorm room, I sat, annoying my roommate by screaming, "But, you're all going to Fashion Week!" throughout the episode. I'm dumbfound and kind of upset.
Can someone with higher knowledge please clarify this for me?

Okay. I couldn't wait til Saturday! So much to tell!
February 6, 2008; Spice Girls
My leopard vest was an ode to the old Scary Spice. My gal-pal and I were pretty far, but we could still see them! A lot of girls were dressed up as the OLD Spice Girls; It was darling. There were some little girls there too. Why? I don't know, for they weren't even born yet! Viva Spice Girls!
February 8, 2008; Marc Jacobs Fall 2008
The outside crowd; The Fashion Obsessed.
The invite that a PR Rep. gave us; Anna MOTHERFREAKIN Wintour.
The gift bags; Yum, the golden invite!
So this is what happened: We arrive to the NY Armory and the line is around the building! I then see a fellow classmate--it turns out her mom WORKS for Marc Jacobs and she gets to go to all his events (lucky biotch)! We talk and she's amazed that we are going to try and sneak into the show, because she never had to nor thought of doing that for any other show. So we walk pass security but then when they ask to check our bags they ask for the invitation and Jeff & I are like, uhh crap, so we pretend we left it at the hotel and go outside and brainstorm. We're waiting by the wall near the entrance and we see all the celebrities walk in! It was famous-people galore, and they were all well-dressed (duh). From Molly Simms, to Anna Wintour, to M.I.A, stars worth seeing were there! Well, anyway, now Jeff and I are standing there and we see these PR people in front of us holding lists of VIP names and it turns out that their job was to seat the VIPs. Jeff pesters me to ask them how we can get in, and so I do and they are pretty much like "It's impossible. Good luck!" 2 minutes later, they turn around and hand us their invitations since they basically don't need them. Jeff and I were over-joyed and waltz right into the show! AHHHH! This September, I'm aiming for 3 shows. I'll just keep upping them as the years goes on.
This has been the best week of my life EVERRR! Now I have to refocus on my schoolwork (ew).
Marc's line was uh-mazing! There was something angel-like, yet quirky about it. It sparked my fancy.
I know what you are thinking: "WHY SECRETISTA?! WE NEED YOU! WE NEEEDDD YOU!"--hahaa or may be you're not thinking that, but I hope you are.
Tomorrow night I am seeing the Spice Girls with my friend who likes to blow bubblegum bubbles (scroll down if you don't remember her).
Thursdays (and Tuesdays) are my busiest days because I work from 10-2 and have classes from 2:20-5:50 and then I need to study for my Chineseexam on Friday.
Friday I plan on going into the city with a friend to possibly see a show. I had a dream that we snuck into another show, and it was fulfilling! That said...
Fashion A La Mode (she gives the best advice everr) got me thinking as to what I am going to wear Friday night. I don't know if I should be casual chic (some jeans and heels) or if I should be sophisticatedly chic (black pants and heels or a short black dress).
Any ideas as to what I should wear Friday night on my expedition to find a NY Fashion Week Show? Special Note: Sorry for the lack of jumping pictures. Also, my free trial of Paint Shop Pro has ended, so I'm gunna have to fiddle around with my Adobe Photoshop when I have time. I really would like to buy Paint Shop Pro, but it's so darn expensive!
Today, my gay boyfriend and I went to the 50 Years of Italian Fashion exhibit at Twelve 21 on west 21st street between 5th and 6th ave; we were surprised by the next to no crowd (okay, there actually wasn't anyone in there besides us). The exhibit was nice, but short. I thought there would be more! Well, when you first walk in through the double doors, the wall to the left was decorated in Vogue covers from different eras. There was more to the exhibit, but the wall covered in Vogue magazine covers, truly caught my eye.
It makes me wonder why American Vogue doesn't have more artistic--for the lack of a better word--covers. I mean, honestly. You can't tell me that these covers don't make you wanna pick up an Italian Vogue. My favorite and most recent are these:
I don't know who these women are, but I'll assume they are models. It would be nice to see models grace the cover of American Vogue again. I've had enough with the celebrities!
Moving on: My lover and I went over to Bryant park.
The front steps are as far as we got (^^those aren't the front steps lol). However, I did receive a WWD newspaper with the entire scheduling and I wanna go back tomorrow and crash, uh I mean attend, a Fashion show. But, my devotion to the Giants, just might hold me back.
Sigh, I wish I could go back everyday of this week, but I've got quizes coming up and the Spice Girls Concert, so it looks like my Fashion Week adventures won't continue until Friday or Thursday night.
As you know, tonight I went out to eat with some friends. We ended up not going to Bobby Flay's restaurant, but instead went to this amazing Indian food restaurant called Dévi (8 East 18th Street--between 5th Avenue and Broadway). IT WAS SO GOOD! The service was UHHHMAZING! After a meal, they would instantly take our plates and replace our silver wear; the drinking glasses were never empty, for they just kept pouring water into our glasses; and, we even got a complementary dish from the chef! Part of me feels like they were just trying to up their service because they knew we were there for Restaurant week, but who cares, I loved the place and I might go back! Our dishes consisted of: Quail, scallops, chicken, goat cheese ice cream, fig cake, and more! The prices are reasonably priced, and the food is perfectly portioned that if you order an Appetizer, Main Course, and Dessert, you'll be pleastantly full, yet not entirely broke--haha!
We also ate at Cupcake Cafe (545 9th Avenue and 18 West 18th Street)! ;]
Fashion:
Wow, you are all going to hate me when I tell you where I was tonight. As we all know, today is the start of NY Fashion Week! Okay, well, after Cupcake Cafe, we were walking down 18th Street and in the cafe we were JUST talking about sneaking into a Fashion show and how cool it would be to do that! Well, my fellow Fashionistas, since we are College students and we saw this big Fiji Water poster and thought we could get free water (yea, when you are a student on a campus where they charge you almost $2 for a bottle of water, you try to get as much free food & free drinks as much as you can, haha!), and thought that it would be nice since we just had cupcakes. So, we walk up to the door and this secruity officer is like get in! We look at eachother and think 'uh okay'. As soon as we get in my friend (the bubble gum blower) says 'OMG THIS IS A FASHION SHOW! OMG! OMG! THERE'S A RUNWAY!' We didn't know what to do because we were already in line and I really wanted to see a Fashion show anyway. So we creep pass the sign-in table and are waiting for almost 45 minutes for the show to start. Instantly, at the corner of my eye, I see this funky hair cut, glasses and skinny thing; I turn my head and OH MY GAHHH!--IT'S CHRISTIAN FROM PROJECT RUNWAY!I tell my friends and one of them is like 'OMG. OMG. Okay, let's not make a scene we wanna look like we belong.' The show starts and the collection is cute and very male-chic, but we are still stumped as to who the designer is. However, by the end of the show we see this cute Asian woman with a bob come out--it's Victorya Hong! I'm actually not surprised it's her collection because everything didn't really grasp me and even on Proejct Runway, her designs did not WOW me. But, I'm so happy she got a spot in NY Fashion Week!
