Happy National Cupcake Day!

Hello lover!

No, I'm not beckoning the welcome of shoes but CUPCAKES! We all know I'm obsessed or more like in love with cupcakes. I've slowed down the obsession because I don't need to be driven to a diabetic coma. However, today I am going to eat up and you should too! GO CUPCAKES!

National Cupcake Day

I LOVE Twitter & Free $h!T

Twitter brought me brownies... for free!

Fairytale Brownies
Didn't take me too long to dive into the brownies!

Last week I told you about Fairytale Brownies and how before becoming a cupcake connoisseur, I was a brownie-loving babe. I might as well say it: I'm no stranger to having an addiction to the sweets. *Ahem* I did just call myself a "cupcake connoisseur" and a "brownie-loving babe." Oh, and I did open a Twitter account in order to follow CupcakeStop. So needless to say, after I stumbled upon the sweet brownie site, I began following them on Twitter--BEST DECISION, EVER!

I immediately began "Tweeting" (is that the right term?) back and forth with Fairytale Brownies when they Tweeted about dark chocolate brownies (blech, dark chocolate).

So in response to that Tweet I said, "Too bad Dark Chocolate tastes horrible."

They happily wrote back,
"When you sweeten it up and make brownies out of it, it's delicious! :)"

Feeling up for a challenge and a firm believer in the statement, "ask and you shall receive," I cheekily said, "
Send me some and I'll be the judge. ;]"

Next thing I know, they're asking for my address and here I am a week later--scarfing down snack-sized brownies of 12 different flavors! YUM, YUM, YUM!!! And I'm not sharing!

And so my dear lovelies, I've come up with a verdict. Anything that provides me with free goodies and feeds my sweet tooth is more than A-Okay with me. Before, I hated Twitter; but now, I LOVE it!

xoxo

P.S. Perk up those ears for this one college kids. Textbooks.com is having a "Back to Campus Cash Giveaway!" I Have A Twitter Account

Yeah, I said it. I have a Twitter account. However, you all know how I feel about Twitter. Remember this post? I still feel the same way. I think it's only good to promote things. Otherwise, stop talking about yourself. No one cares that you just took the biggest dump of your life. Well, actually, I might care and find that funny--HAHA! The reason I got an account was for one reason and one reason only: to follow CupcakeStop and feed my cupcake addiction. This moving cupcake truck or heaven on wheels as I like to call it has a Twitter account and to find out where the truck is located daily, you can follow them on Twitter. Oh how convenient.

Cupcake Tuesdays

It's the summer, so that means a new eating and sleeping schedule for me. So long are the late nights and frequent snacks that substitute real meals. I'm back to sleeping at a normal schedule (for the most part) and eating three meals a day instead of my usual one or two during the school year. However, just because I am back to a healthier lifestyle does not mean I'll be giving up eating cupcakes whenever I want. I did say in a previous post that I'll be indulging in cupcakes as much as I can this summer and I will hold on tight to that promise! And to make sure I stay true to my promise, my best friend and I have come up with "Cupcake Tuesdays." A Crumbs Bake Shop recently opened up close to us and we'll be taking weekly trips to the cupcake haven to get our sugary fix.

Secretista LOVES cupcakes
Secretista LOVES cupcakes! But you already knew that.

In other cupcake news, CupcakeStop, NYC's first mobile gourmet cupcake shoppe, is set to launch on June 3rd. A moving cupcake shop? I think I have died and gone to heaven.

A Dream Come True

Photobucket
My late birthday present: a giant cupcake.

I tried to eat the whole thing by myself, but I couldn't do it. The kitchen guru on my RA staff made me this and I was suppose to share it with the entire staff. And I did--after I had the first couple of bites. It was Red Velvety goodness!

Make Cupcakes. Not War.

It's no surprise to anyone who knows me; I am OBSESSED with cupcakes. It's kind of sickening how obsessed I am, but I don't apologize for my love of the perfect accessory. So when I opened the February issue of Teen Vogue and saw an article on having a DIY cupcake party, I knew the editors had me in mind (or, I like to think they did). Simply stated, cupcakes and fashion go hand-in-hand--in my world.

Photobucket

The article states it best. I love not having to share a cupcake, and with my birthday on the way, I'm anticipating how many cupcakes I'll be eating to celebrate the best day on Earth, ever. Of course I believe that sharing is caring, but when it comes to a cupcake, GET YOUR OWN!

Everyone has a different way to eat a cupcake. I lick all the icing off and then I shove the cupcake in my mouth. What do you do?

Cupcake Party in The City!

Cupcakes are an obsession I could never quit. So when I opened my e-mail today (amidst my long, long day), I was super excited to see a lovely entry about cupcakes from New York magazine. Apparently, the fabulous ladies at Cupcakes Take The Cake, are hosting a party for their 4th year blogiversary! As soon as I read that cupcakes from Crumbs would be there, I was sold. I didn't need to read on, but there will be lots of other cupcake treats at the cupcaketastic bash. If I didn't have class, I'd be the first person to show up.

Oh Look, Cupcakes!

Crumbs has their own water?!

Yesterday, I spent the day in New York City with some fabulous friends. We explored the city and of course, ate cupcakes! After walking all the way up to 78th street from 42nd street, I was so happy to see the Crumbs sign that I ran to the bakeshop. I am DETERMINED to try every single cupcake in Crumbs. And guess what? I'm only 5 or 6 cupcake flavors away from that destination (YES!).

True Life: I'm A Resident Assistant--Update

Nothing hurts me more than having a piece of clothing that isn't my desired size. Tonight my RD (Resident Director) handed out our staff polo shirts. For some reason, she had me down as a size SMALL. Uh, WHAT?!?! I am not and never will be a small; I'm a medium/large. Well, I can fit into a small, but you know that saying, "your jeans should fit you, not you fit it?" Yeah, that's exactly how I feel about the polo. I don't feel like bothering my RD anymore, so I'm just going to suck it up... or... not eat for a couple of days--haha! I kept my mind off of the polo by working on my bulletin board, and c'est fini!

Tuesday's Thoughts: I Don't Understand

Photobucket

Mmm, nothing beats sushi and cupcakes. I had lunch today with a classmate/friend who is interning at More magazine. We chatted about school, summer, and all that good stuff. Oh yeah, and we ate sushi and cupcakes. She had one normal sized cupcake while I had TWO gigantic chocolate delights (NEVER again will I do that). There are things in this world that I don't understand and why Crumbs' cupcakes are so delightful happens to be one of them. Do they inject some type of drug into their cake batter?! Speak magic over their oven?! Well, this got me thinking, what else do I not currently understand.

1. Rihanna's music videos. Her songs are so good, but the videos just don't make any sense! Or, they don't turn out to be what I expected. I swear, check out her videos Umbrella, Please Don't Stop the Music, and Disturbia. I understand she's trying to be edgy and fashion forward (?), but I think certain videos require a storyline and some of her videos just don't have one. But then again, who cares because her songs still make me want to shake my groove thang.

2. Kate Perry's I Kissed A Girl. Call me old fashion or whatever, but I don't believe in experimenting. I'M SORRY. I don't think I'll ever get that urge to "kiss a girl." I don't play the fence. I think the song's beat is really great and she's got a great tone to her voice, but I can't stand the lyrics. I don't know why, but the song just gets on my nerves and every time I hear it I have to change the station.

3. Sprinkles. I love, love me some sweet toppings, but sprinkles I never understood. I used to work at an ice cream shop called MaggieMoo's and whenever the little kiddies would ask for rainbow sprinkles or chocolate sprinkles I would smile, mix the sprinkles in and later on scratch my head in confusion. Sprinkles don't have a flavor, even the chocolate ones! It's all about the Oreo mix-ins kiddies, the Oreo mix-ins.

What do you not currently understand?

Cupcakes and The City

Mmm. Nothing is better than cupcakes and the city. MC and I hit up sugar Sweet sunshine for some cupcakes (Crumbs takes the cake, sorry SSS). I'm afraid to admit that I ate uh, 4 cupcakes *throws hands over face*. Ya know I was uhm, "taste testing". Heh.

The cupcakes were good, but there's just something about Crumbs that makes me salivate for them more. I do love that the store has a blast from the past feeling; everything is very vintage looking. Also, the cupcakes have THE cutest names. I felt kind of cool ordering a "Sexy Red Velvet!" But may be I couldn't totally fall in love with sugar Sweet sunshine because although their cupcakes are priced cheaply, they charge... for water! HELLO, water is free! And the cup of [tap] water is so tiny it's ridiculous (I know it looks much bigger in the picture, but trust me, we were cracking up at how tiny it was/is)!

Hi, My Name is Secretista and I'm a Cupcake-aholic.

A text message from Noel @ Miss Couturable today forced me to come to terms with my uh, slight addiction. It was after we finalized our plans...

MC: Btw, you're obsessed with cupcakes.
... I AM. I AM! I HAVE A SERIOUS PROBLEM!
Hmm. I guess it doesn't help that we're eating cupcakes tomorrow, ha.

All Aboard The Cupcake Train!

Four hours later. FOUR long hours later, and I'm finally home. Due to some power outage on the train tracks, all trains leaving the station were suspended! I sat on the 4:30 for about an hour and as people were trickling out to find other ways home, I decided to join the pack and head out. I texted my guy friend and told him, "Screw this waiting, I'm going shopping." His response, "Fab idea. When the going get tough, the tough go shopping!" I laughed out loud obnoxiously and received strange glares from frustrated yuppies. Woops.

Photobucket

Well, instead of making a pit stop at the nearest Forever 21, I decided to head uptown to Crumbs Bake Shop. The cupcake was pretty big, and I think priced right ($3.50). I just love that Crumbs puts icing in the middle of their cupcakes. Mmm... mmm... good. After my 15 minute trip uptown, I returned to a packed Penn station. Oh well, I had my cupcake to keep me busy, so when my train FINALLY arrived (an hour behind schedule), it seemed like I was only there for 5 minutes.

Photobucket

I'm tired; my feet hurt from standing for an hour on a sardine-packed train, and I have work extra early tomorrow. Night y'all!

I wonder when this cupcake phase will end?

Monday Obsession: Cupcakes

Photobucket

...what a surprise, NOT! After work today, I decided to head uptown to Buttercup Bake Shop, and I have to admit, I was a little disappointed. The cake is amazing, but the icing isn't exactly my favorite. It makes me wonder why anyone would want one of their icing shots. Yes, I said ICING SHOTS. The icing is too rich and I found a piece of plastic in the icing of my red velvet cupcake (yikes!). Sadly, that didn't stop me from finishing it (HEY. I paid 6 bucks!), but what's so great about this bake shop is that with at least two cupcakes you get a free drink! Buttercup Bake Shop, you are in last place on my cupcake list.

Photobucket

Besides eatable cupcakes, there's me (unless you're a cannibal)! Today's outfit is little girl and cupcake inspired. Okay lovelies, prepare to use your imagination. In my head, my trapeze dress is the cupcake while my silver sequenced kicks are kind of like the icing on top of the cupcake. I think the shoes add a sweet, pretty, and unique touch to the outfit. What do you think? Anyone else have food inspired outfits?

Secretista + Cupcakes + Giambattista Valli = Forever

Photobucket

Oh Red Velvet, I love thee. Today was the day. Today was the day I had my very first Red Velvet cupcake, ever. I can't exactly describe the taste, but it was pure perfection. Previous to shoving it in my mouth, I heard that it was supposed to taste similar to chocolate; however, my taste buds didn't catch that flavor. When I saw the cupcake sitting there (and screaming my name), I couldn't help but say, "Hello there my little Giambattista Valli wannabe creation." Covered in creamy white vanilla frosting, and decorated with bright red sprinkles and drizzled milk chocolate, the cupcake really did look like a piece from his Fall 2008 collection. Or, I could just be trying to force my two loves to become one! Hah.

P.S. The new season of Project Runway Premieres tonight! Oh and if you have time, check out an update I wrote a couple of days ago. It's about childhood dreams. What's yours? Are you living it now? Mine was to be a stylist. No surprise there...

Monday Obsession: Creatures of Habit

Photobucket

During my senior year of high school, my journalism teacher used to always say, "We're all creatures of habit..." I understood what she meant, but never thought it applied to me--until today.

I do everything, for the most part, the same... everyday. I get out of bed the same (hitting snooze 3 times), and I get dressed the same. In addition, I usually style myself... the same (a dress/skirt or jeans/pants) Why is this? My habits don't stop there either. Down at the cafeteria in the office building, the sandwich maker knows what I want.

"Grilled chicken and lettuce in a whole wheat wrap please," I casually say.
Her response, "Yup, and no pickle right?"
"Right!"

To relate this to fashion, someone once said that you should create a look for yourself and just keep adding pieces that enhance it. Thus, feeding human nature for habits and rituals. I guess having set habits isn't exactly a bad thing. In a way, it kind of defines who you are and gives you character. Wouldn't it be nice to have a signature look? And so I wonder, what's my signature look? My headbands? My dresses? My... smile? Hmm.

What are some of your habits and rituals?

P.S. I had another Crumbs Bake Shop cupcake from the cafeteria. I'm obsessed.

Intern and The City: Food For Thought

Photobucket

Today my editor made me realize something; I need to chill the heck out (not her exact words, but my interpretation). Determined to finish whatever I was working on, I ignored my grumbling stomach. It was approaching 1 and while everyone left their desk chairs to go eat, I didn't. Not smart on my part. However, once it turned 1, she made sure I had food in my bellay. She's so darling :).

I sometimes wonder why I submerge myself into my work and forget about the world. I do it during the school year too--neglecting my friends because I have to study or start a project... a month ahead of time? Something about mixing work and play is something I never grasped as a child. I once had a conversation with my best friend about this topic and she reminded me about an incident that happened in 5th grade. She asked, "You want to come over and watch a movie?" My response, "Uh, why? It's Friday. I have to do homework!" 9 years later, I can't help but chuckle at that incident. Nevertheless, amongst other things, I'm learning the importance of fun.

Photobucket

So if I didn't escape out of the office for a little bit, I would have missed the oh-so delicious cupcakes from Crumbs Bake Shop downstairs in the cafeteria. I think I found my new cupcake love affair. Sorry Billy's Bakery, their cupcakes actually stay intact. I think I devoured that cupcake in a matter of seconds. Hoping no one saw me shove it down my throat, I looked over my shoulder and unfortunately saw a co-worker... looking right at me. I hope I didn't have any icing on my face, heh.

My sudden cupcake obsession has got me scoping out all the cupcake shops in Manhattan. After I visit Crumbs Bake Shop, my next stop is sugar Sweet sunshine. I think CosmoGIRL! was on to something about cupcakes being this season’s latest accessory. Do you agree?

Intern and The City: Something Learnt

Photobucket

The lovely Noel @ MissCouturable and I met up for lunch today and shared tidbits about our lovely internships. We hit up this organic? healthy? burger place called Better Burger and then headed to Billy's Bakery! OH MY GAHH--HEAVEN. I love how the cupcakes split easily, so that you can eat the top half and the bottom half separately! However, eating the cupcakes are a little messy (or I just don't know how to eat), but who cares because they taste mighty fine! Hmm. Ya know, it was really nice to finally go out for lunch; sometime I get so caught up in the work I'm doing that I forget to eat. But that's okay because I'm learning so much!

Ultimately, that's what internships are about--learning new things and gaining experience in your field of choice. So far my brain has absorbed knowledge on:

How to write for the web.
How to operate a Mac, better. I'm Pro-computer, but the magazine industry uses Macs, so it's better I learn now than later.
How to edit and research photos.
How to kick a$ in an interview.
OH, and I now know the importance of news.

I wonder what I'll learn next?!
What's something new you've recently learned?
